Hockey Shooting Skills: Getting Around The Puck
Summary
A fair amount of time in a game or practice, we skate with the puck towards the net, skates pointing straight ahead. Getting a shot off in this kind of situation is fairly easy.
But what if we receive the puck while our feet are not facing the goal? This could happen as a defender along the blue line, a flanker on the Power Play, or when you're skating up the boards and receive a pass to cut to the net. How do we shoot then?
The concept of getting around the puck while shooting allows you to really load up your shot while rotating your feet in the proper direction. In this video I explain how it's done!
Have fun practicing!

The Missing Piece In Your Edge Work
Summary
The Downhill Skating System is the mechanics-first approach that unlocks effortless, controlled speed on the ice without extra conditioning, pushing or “trying harder.” Inspired by the movement signatures of players like Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Quinn Hughes, and other elite NHL skaters, this system teaches you how to move on the ice with gravity, using your body's own stretch shortening cycles mixed with the most efficient footwork patterns and various skating mechanics.
Most players skate “uphill”: stiff, blocky, pushing hard, creating tension and burning energy like we were always taught in traditional powerskating. Downhill skating flips that model. By using counter rotation, proper joint angles, and natural gravitational momentum, we teach you move faster with less effort.
Inside the Downhill Skating System, players learn to:
1) Unlock the inner spring for better acceleration. 2)Use different footwork patterns to add options, deception and effortlessness. 3)Proper joint alignment for efficiency and balance instead of creating tension with push strides.
Apply NHL-base mechanics like shin angle, Y-angle, rhythm and cadence. Generate speed using the rocker, with heel pressure and subtle weight transfers.
This system is not what players would learn in traditional, outdated power skating methods. It’s a biomechanics-based operating system designed to match your body type and natural movement patterns.
Whether you’re trying to improve the forward stride, lateral movements, deception, or posture, Downhill Skating reveals the hidden mechanics the NHL’s best rely on, and shows you how to plug them into your game step by step.
If you’re ready to skate faster with less effort, flow through transitions, and move with the smoothness of the world’s best players, the Downhill Skating System is your blueprint to faster player development.

The 4 Factors To Creating Explosive Skating Danielle Fujita
Summary
FULL VIDEO: https://hubs.la/Q04wW6by0
Some players believe that skating speed comes down to strength and effort, but in reality, nuances in how they position and move their bodies play an even greater role. During her on-ice session at TCS Live 2026, Calgary Flames’ skating coach Danielle Fujita introduced a few concepts that contribute to the mechanics of explosive acceleration. The first was what she calls turnout and tilt, or “TNT” for short. Turnout refers to the toes turning out to create a proper angle to produce force from your skate edges.

Stop Copying Mcdavids Workout Do This Instead | The Train 20 Show
Summary
Stop Copying McDavid's Workout. Do This Instead. | The Train 2.0 Show
Most hockey players build their summer around a program they saw an NHL player post, and then wonder why they show up to camp slower, tighter, or hurt. In this episode Kevin McKinnon, Train 2.0's Director of Coaching, sits down in person with Mason Hackel, a certified Train 2.0 coach and level three ATG coach out of Ann Arbor, to talk about the training philosophy he used to fix his own hips and what it looks like when you build it for a hockey player.
They get into the three lifts Mason builds every program around and the exact bodyweight standard he works players toward, the reason so many players tear an Achilles in the offseason and never see it coming, what to do about knee pain and hip pain before you touch anything explosive, the off-ice work that widens your corkscrew, one number in the gym that tracks directly with skating speed, and the order Kevin periodizes a summer so you peak at training camp instead of in July.
Watch the full episode for the standards, the demos, and the plan.

9 Ways To Define Compete In Hockey Brennan Sonne
Summary
FULL VIDEO: https://hubs.la/Q04vWQ8S0
What if you could measure compete? Coachella Valley Firebirds Assistant Coach Brennan Sonne did exactly that. At TCS Live 2026, he shared how he's broken down “compete” into nine specific actions, tracked them, clipped them and showed players how those choices correlated with winning. No more “compete harder.” Just a clear identity every player can own. Now coaches can learn how to build the same system with their teams.

How To Stop Losing The Puck
Two Moves Almost Every Coach Skips (outside Edge + Soft Drag)
Summary
Two Moves Almost Every Coach Skips (Outside Edge + Soft Drag)
The first ten minutes of most practices are gone before anyone notices. Laps, a whistle, some stretching at the blue line, and a group of players who are now warm but no better than when they walked in. That block is worth a lot more than it is being used for.
In this video I go through exactly how I would restructure it: where the warm-up actually belongs, how to run it so nobody is standing in a line, why every player should have a puck from the very first rep, and the two mechanics I would put ahead of everything else. They are the two almost no team trains, which is exactly why they create such a gap for the players who do.
Watch the full walkthrough to see how the block is built and what to run inside it.

Have you ever watched an NHL superstar dangle through three defenders and wondered how they make it look like they've got a forcefield around them, gliding past checks like they're not even there?
That's the illusion John Riley set out to break down when he took the ice at TCS Live in 2023 for a session on creating offensive opportunities by invading space. The goal for offensive players, Riley explained, isn't to avoid defenders. It's to go right through them.

How To Stickhandle Faster
Summary
Welcome to Precise Puck Control.
There’s a reason we call this puck control and not just stickhandling.
Stickhandling usually refers to isolated mechanics like moving the puck around cones or in drills disconnected and from real gameplay. Puck control, in our context, is different. It’s the conscious ability to move the puck exactly where you want, at the speed you want, while your skating, shooting, and deception mechanics are fully integrated.
At Train 2.0, we teach it as part of a complete movement system.
The truth: isolated stickhandling doesn’t transfer to games. You might develop quick hands. You might look smooth in drills. But without integrating footwork, balance, posture, and skating mechanics, you’ll be missing that puck on a string look in-game.
We’ve all seen players with “great hands” who somehow struggle in games. That disconnect happens when puck skills are trained without mechanical awareness or integration. Repeating the same patterns around cones without adjusting mechanics can actually reinforce bad habits instead of building elite control.
Our goal with this system is to give you a language for puck control: a mechanical framework you can understand, feel, and adjust. When you combine awareness with deliberate repetition, you build mastery.
Inside this course, you’ll learn:
How elite NHL players integrate skating, handling, and deception.
What mechanical adjustments create real control at top speed.
How to systematically close the gaps in your own puck control.
How to create more options in more situations during games.

Eishockey Ausrüstungscheck: Skate Profiling Erklärt
Summary

Stop Swinging Your Arms Forward When You Skate
Summary
Stop Swinging Your Arms Forward When You Skate
Most power skating coaches teach arm swing based on what they see in sprinters, and on the surface it makes complete sense. But there's a visual illusion hiding inside that comparison, and buying into it quietly robs players of leg power in a way that's neurophysiological, not motivational. There's even a two-second experiment you can run off the ice tonight that proves it on your own body.
Watch the full breakdown to see what your arms are actually doing when you skate, why the answer changes the moment your chest leans over, and how to test both approaches yourself on the ice.

The Untaught Stickhandling Mechanics You Need To Know

How To Do The 360 In Hockey
Summary
The Downhill Skating System is the mechanics-first approach that unlocks effortless, controlled speed on the ice without extra conditioning, pushing or “trying harder.” Inspired by the movement signatures of players like Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Quinn Hughes, and other elite NHL skaters, this system teaches you how to move on the ice with gravity, using your body’s own stretch shortening cycles mixed with the most efficient footwork patterns and various skating mechanics.

Inline Skating Transitions Part Two: Backwards To Forwards Tutorial
Summary
Part two of my transitions tutorial on inline skates! In part one we covered transitioning from forward to backward skating and going back in the other direction. In this video I teach you how to do just the opposite: skating backwards, transitioning and going back forward!
An important skill to learn for both recreational skaters and inline hockey players alike, and a skill that feels super smooth once you get the hang of it.
At the end of the video, I give you a little bonus: my favourtie drill for rollerblading or on ice training for transitions. Tons of reps in a really short period of time.
Have fun practicing!
