C-Cuts are best used when traveling at full speed going backward or in 1 on 1 situations as a defenseman. Backward crossovers are still best for acceleration and lateral movement. So the best way to do this is by performing 1 crossover to get your speed up, then going into the backward c-cuts.
\n
\n
Also the arm swing shown is used only in low pressure situations and when going for absolute maximum speed. When you are in a high pressure situation such as a 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 against you, you can do many things with your stick and might not be able to swing your arms.
\n
"

When players try to do the reach in and have not fully grasped the technique of the normal crossovers, it tends to make the crossovers worse rather than better. It would be like adding in a puck to the forward stride before the player has the normal stride down, its just too much to think about right off the bat and should be built up to in a progression.
\n
"

An important note on technique: a good way to test your technique on forward crossovers is to skate a circle slowly while listening to your pushes. The more powerful the push, the louder the push will sound, so naturally practice this until both pushes sound exactly the same in terms of loudness and duration of the push. When done correctly the stride push and the x-push generate exactly the same power.
\n
"

This is a redo of my last video, this one shows more detail as well as a practice drill to work on.
\n
\n
A note on the arm swing; the arm swing shown is used for generating maximum possible speed. The technique was taken from speed skating and adapted into hockey. Only use this one hand arm swing when you are in low pressure or no pressure situations in a game such as on a breakaway before you get to the goalie or backchecking while trying to catch the skater with the puck.
\n
Most game situations require 2 hands on the stick, such as passing, shooting, recieving a pass, stopping, turning, transitions, and most other game situations. The only time you have one hand is when nobody is near you and you need pure SPEED. For younger skaters it is important teaching them when to go one hand on the stick and when to go two hands on the stick. You don't want your players to always have 2 hands on the stick the same as you don't want them to always have 1 hand on the stick.
\n
"

Most players cannot execute a tight turn at full speed properly or without falling down, even fewer players can do that on both sides. For most players this is because they are doing a common mistake and not performing a C-cut when entering the turn, as addressed in the video. The other common mistake would be leaning into the turn as opposed to leaning out to keep your center of gravity more over your skates. Between these two corrections you will see a vast improvement in your turns.
\n
"
