They went 1-0-1 on the ice but the big news was, obviously, the shocking news that dropped Friday night that superstar forward Nikita Kucherov said that he will not re-sign in Tampa Bay and has requested a trade. General manager Julien BriseBois has come out and said the team will not be trading him. It’s anyone’s guess how this will end, but things do not seem to be going well in regards to bringing back the recently crowned franchise points leader. Meanwhile, the Lightning season continues to roll along with the Lightning coming away with three out of four possible points last week. Pontus Holmberg had a career-best four point night in a 6-4 win at Benchmark on Tuesday as the team tied the franchise record with their 6-0 start at home. Kucherov’s news broke the night before the team played in Nashville and Kucherov recorded three assists but it wasn’t enough as the Predators took down the Lightning 5-4 in a shootout, but the points streak remained alive for Tampa Bay. The Lightning finally get a break from Western Conference teams this week with one game against their Atlantic Division rival Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday before facing off against the West again when Chicago is in town on Thursday. The Lightning will wrap up the week with a tough back-to-back on the road in Minnesota and Winnipeg on Saturday and Sunday. The Boston Bruins remain atop of the Atlantic Division once again but finished the week 1-2 after starting with back-to-back losses in Carolina and St. Louis before a comeback victory back home in Boston against Chicago. Boston hosts Vegas on Monday, visits Pittsburgh on Thursday, and finishes the week with an important Atlantic Division matchup against Florida. Montreal has been one of the hottest teams in the NHL winning five in a row and all three games last week against St. Louis, Dallas, and Pittsburgh. The Canadiens are within striking distance of first place in the division and return home to face Winnipeg and Utah before traveling to Toronto on Saturday for an Original Six matchup against an Atlantic Division rival. Ottawa had a busy week last week with four games out west and stumbled out the gates with losses in Las Vegas and Los Angeles in overtime before returning to the win column with a 5-1 victory in San Jose. The Senators wrapped the week up for the Atlantic last night with a 6-3 loss in Anaheim and finish this week 1-2-1 but still remain in the top three of the Atlantic Division. Ottawa completes their road trip in Buffalo on Wednesday before returning home to face Utah on Saturday. Florida had a light schedule this week by first wrapping up a road trip in Winnipeg with a 5-1 victory and then completed the home-and-home sweep of the Jets with a 5-2 victory in Sunrise on Friday night. The Panthers have a tough road ahead this week with four games as they host Detroit and Chicago before heading to Washington and Boston. Toronto was on a roll heading into last week’s action but failed to capitalize on that momentum by dropping their first two games in Calgary and Seattle before finishing the week with a win in Vancouver. The Leafs are an entertaining bunch as they’re near the top of the league in goals for and goals allowed. The Leafs return home from their recent trip out west with home games against Utah, Montreal and New Jersey to close out the first week of November. Buffalo went undefeated last week in their takedown of the Cali teams. First was against San Jose followed by Anaheim and Los Angeles. Buffalo will try to pick up where they left off in California as they return home to play Ottawa, Columbus and Vegas this week. And last but not least in a crowded Atlantic Division is the Red Wings once again. Detroit had a winning week with a shootout win in Edmonton followed by a sound 4-1 victory in Chicago. The Wings had a great opportunity to finish the week undefeated but managed to give away a two-goal lead in a 5-4 loss at home to St. Louis to wrap up their week. Detroit also has a busy schedule this week with games against Florida, Tampa Bay, Las Vegas and Colorado. Thanks for stopping by again this week and be sure to check back next week for The Atlantic Current!
