Episode Description
Summary
The episode of Locked On Devils hosted by Zach Berman focuses on New Jersey Devils training camp news, particularly regarding prospects and recent draft picks. Zach Berman opens by expressing surprise that certain league-wide offseason questions, such as the futures of Dylan Larkin and Connor Hellebuyck, remain unresolved as training camps approach. He highlights the Devils' strong cap position for the next offseason and notes that while no major moves are expected before the holidays, this cap flexibility could lead to significant changes in the future.
A central topic is the status of Alex Command, the Devils’ 12th overall pick in the most recent draft, who will not be attending training camp in North America and will instead remain in the Swedish Hockey League for at least another year. Zach Berman remarks that this isn't surprising given Command’ age, but shifts focus to Matthias Vanhanen, a second-round pick with high expectations due to his standout offensive production in the WHL. Vanhanen is noted as a player to watch at camp, with excitement building around his potential impact.
The discussion then pivots to Anton Silayev, the Devils’ 10th overall pick from the 2024 draft, whose prospects and role remain a point of debate. Zach Berman outlines that Silayev is considered an excellent skater for his size, although he is not offensively dominant. There is speculation as to whether the organization truly believes he can compete for a roster spot this season, or if such talk is intended to increase his trade value now that he is in North America.
The episode concludes with updates on the Devils’ coaching and training staff changes, including the hire of Victor Kuri and Ted Donato's presumed new role running the power play. Zach Berman anticipates further turnover from the previous management era and teases upcoming episodes focused on the team's promotional schedule and other organizational news, reiterating the continued transition under new leadership.
